Teen Art Night - 2/8/24, 3/14/24, 4/25/24, 5/23/24

Partnering with the White River Craft Center to employ artists in providing a free art night for teens at the library, this event is hosted monthly when artists are available. Projects so far have included a weaving workshop, Victorian Puzzle Purses, and beading and jewelry making. 

Teen Financial Literacy Workshops - 10/28/24 and 5/21/24

Kimball Library partnered with UVM professor John Lens who offered his expertise on financial literacy. A small group of teens were able to ask questions to demystify personal finances, answering questions about taxes, starting your own business, investing, and more. We hope to continue to offer these when John is available to do so. 

Teen Wellness Night - 12/27/23, 4/17/24

These events are designed to create a calm space to relax and enjoy self care activities during Holiday Breaks including face masks, nail painting, making a sugar scrub to take home, and eating some delicious snacks with friends.

Queer Youth Safe Space - 4/9/24, 4/23/24, 5/7/24

This series of events was designed by a youth looking for a safe space for people of all identities to hang out and eat snacks together. 

Jaws of the Lion Campaign - 4/16/24, 4/30/24, 5/14/24

A youth community member introduced other kids in the community to a four player cooperative board game. Interpersonal and cooperative skills are enhanced by constructive gameplay. 

Pokemon Trading Card Events - Spring 2023 and Spring 2024

          Hosted by two youth community members in partnership, Pokemon events often consist of both trading and player vs. player card game options. Kids who have not traded or played before are able to learn from each other using a set of house rules adapted from the Pokemon Trading Card Game Rulebook by the youth leaders. 

Cosplay, 6/3/2023

         

A youth community member worked closely with the Librarians and The Arts Bus to envision a Cosplay event with many elements: costume building, performance, and roleplay.

Bike Club, May - June 2023 & Bike to School Day, May 22, 2023 and Bike Club May-June 2024

          A series of Monday afterschool bike rides, partnering with Morgan Easton from The Rec Department and Ridgeline Outdoor Collective to empower kids with safe riding skills. Kids learned or practiced hand signals for road riding, using hand brakes when going down street and trail hills, and trail riding skills. 

          For those kids that attend public schools, May 22nd, 2023 was Randolph Schools' first Bike to School Day organized and run by local volunteers with support from Kimball Library, Ridgeline, Randolph Schools, and Randolph Police. Over 30 kids met up at locations all around town at 8:00am on a Monday to ride their bikes to school together. 

Dungeons and Dragons May & June 2023

          A youth community member led a D&D group open to the public at the library, using his skills to tell a story through gameplay. 

 

Halloween Escape Room - 10/27-10/29/23

         A youth community member helped to design an escape room incorporating both the upstairs and downstairs in the library, with 5 unique themed puzzles that culminated in a grand prize, in which participants were able to choose a book to add to the collection. This youth community member used storytelling, puzzle knowledge, problem solving, and creativity to create a spectacular event enjoyed by adults and kids from 8-70!
