Hiking the Continental Divide Trail

After an emotionally devastating crisis in her life, 63-year-old Mary Anderson set out to hike half of the Continental Divide Trail, hoping to find peace and healing. She completed 1500 miles from the Mexican border through New Mexico and Colorado into Wyoming. Mary will give a Zoom presentation about her journey, showing photos and reading sections from the book she is writing. She will welcome questions after her presentation. 

Mary Anderson lives in Bethel. In the 1980’s she thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail twice, once in winter. Following this winter hike, she thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, spending close to 14 months continuously hiking. Contact the Library for a Zoom invitation.

Poetry on Climate Change by Geza Tatrallyay

Geza Tatrallyay, who has had thirteen books published so far, of which four are poetry collections, will talk about, and read poetry from his two most recent  collections, Extinction and Extinction Rebellion, as well as some from an upcoming fifth volume, Poems for our World. Many of the poems in these books are in some ways a call to action for us to combat climate change, what mankind is doing to the world all around, to other species and to itself. Geza will talk about how he became an early proponent of environmental activism, having been introduced to these issues by his mentor at Harvard, Roger Revelle (who was also Al Gore's mentor) and then continuing his studies in Human Ecology / Human Sciences at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He will also talk about how he helped start several renewable energy companies which have grown into major international players in the field.

Step 1: Sign up by March 24
Step 2: Create a diorama based on a book, movie, or library theme. Use craft supplies, a cardboard box and Peeps!
Step 3:  Bring your diorama to the Library no later than March 31.
