The Friends of Kimball Library
MISSION
The Friends of Kimball Library ("The Friends") is a non-profit association formed in 1991. According to our by-laws, The Friends is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. Specifically, Friends is to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries, to focus public attention on the Kimball Library, to stimulate use of the Library's resources and services, to encourage contributions, endowments, and bequests to the Library, to support and assist the Library in developing its facilities and services, and to support, as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights, the freedom to read.
Executive Board Members, 2007 - 2008
President: Adele Smith
Vice President: Karen Bixler
Treasurer: Carole Brobst
Secretary: Margaret Causey
Fund Raising
Funds raised by the Friends are used to support ongoing projects (see below) as well as specific requests from the librarian, Children's Summer programs, and Volunteer Appreciation gifts. Recent fund raising events include:
- Annual Perennial Plant Sale (May)
- July 4th Bake Sale
- Annual Dessert Night
- Refreshments sold at the Mini Mud Show at Chandler
Projects
- Newsletter - watch for our issues in The Herald, or sign up for our e-newsletter at the Library.
- New Baby Books - A new book is purchased to honor each child born or adopted in Randolph and Braintree. Each book is identified with a bookplate with the baby's name. A letter is sent to the family with a brochure about sharing books with children and informing them of the title of their child's book. This program encourages parents to make reading and visits to the library an important part of their child's life.
- Day Care Book Bags - Participating home day care providers gain access to a variety of books throughout the year. The children's librarian makes book selections to fill each bag with twelve books. Volunteers deliver the bags to the day care centers and rotate them every two weeks. Through a grant and funds from the Friends, the Library purchases sturdy new bags from Currierware of Randolph.
- Annual Holiday party in December
Membership
If you wish to support the Friends by becoming a member, please call the Library. We would like to sponsor more educational, interesting and fun events, but need people with ideas and energy to help us. Come to the next Friends' meeting and see if you would like to join. Thank you!
